You can always make room on the couch for guests to sleep on when they’re visiting for a few days. But this is not always very comfortable and can make their stay quite unpleasant. Instead, if you have the space to work with, you can give them an entire room where they can sleep comfortably to their heart’s content and feel at home.
Guest rooms can be built pretty much anywhere in the house, but basements offer their own set of benefits. They are perfect for guests who want to have a little privacy during their stay yet close enough to gather in the hub of the house at any time. It is just secluded enough to give your guests the space they need to walk around in their undergarments, but not so closed off that your guests feel isolated.
Because basements are by nature quite dark, you want to compensate by incorporating as many comfortable features as possible. Install a big, fluffy bed, cushioned furniture, and as many other amenities that a normal bedroom would have. It is also important to add plenty of lighting so the room is bright enough. Consider this factor during basement remodeling and speak with your electrician and interior designer to see which lighting fixtures and layouts would work best.
